Welcome to our Family Medicine Residency Program

Please allow me to introduce our program.  Our residency program has been around since 1972.  San Joaquin General Hospital is the dominate healthcare system for the underserved in our community.  We are affiliated with the University of Davis, California, a top research and tertiary medical center, which supplements our resident's community hospital training.

Without a doubt, the goal of the San Joaquin Residency Program is to prepare its residents to practice in any environment.  This has translated into teaching our residents how to do everything within the scope of Family Medicine.  During their three years in our residency program, our residents learn evidence-based care of patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.  Our faculty love to teach and our program fosters a supportive relationship that you must see for yourself on interview day.  Our residents are treated as colleagues and encouraged to work in an environment that allows autonomy, while ensuring quality of care.

In addition to ensuring our residents are competent, we are committed to helping our residents thrive in their varying interests.  Residency is a journey where not only will the medicine learned in medical school be solidified by various real-life examples and a personal growth opportunity. As faculty we are here to support your personal and professional growth.

As for myself, I have been involved in graduate medical education since graduating from family residency training in Chicago, IL.  Grateful to be teaching at San Joaquin for the past 10 years and as PD in the past 5 years. I am board certified in Family Medicine. My interests include underserved populations, hospital medicine, outpatient medicine, emergency medicine, point of care ultrasound, and ambulatory procedures. My latest passion is narrative medicine and learning how to teach compassion and empathy and what it means for myself. Being balanced is extremely important and personally I am always striving to maintain this. Exercising at least once daily in the forms of gym and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I also enjoy all that the outdoors have to offer including backpacking in the sierras with family and friends. Chasing salmon and halibut in the ocean and taking advantage of our proximity to snowboarding in the winter. My staff and I are deeply dedicated to our residents.  We hope you will consider joining our family in the heart of San Joaquin County.

Warmest Regards,
